"I am a scholar of political economy and intellectual history (19th and 20th centuries) with a particular emphasis on the MENA region. I am also an advocate of financial literacy in the face of financialization of everyday life. I am currently researching financial (de)colonization on a global scale. I look at the emergence and transformation of global and national monetary regimes and financial orders (e.g. sterling bloc, gold standard, dollar diplomacy, central banks, IFIs like the IMF) under capitalist expansion, debt, war, colonial conquest, and revolution.I also research the history of economic thought, as well as modern Arab and Islamic thought, with an emphasis on the age of anti-colonial national liberation in the mid-20th century.In...
