Biographies of Jad El Hage

Jad El Hage is a poet, novelist and playwright, and published his first creative works, poems, in Beirut’s newspapers in 1966. He has worked as a journalist since he was sixteen, and also a book editor and radio/broadcaster in Beirut, Paris (Radio Monte Carlo), Athens (Harlequin Arab World), London (BBC World Service) and Sydney. His published works include in Arabic, one novel, seven collections of poetry and two of short stories, one play for radio and four for theatre. He has three novels in English – The Last Migration (Panache Publications) the Myrtle Tree (Banipal Books) And One Day in April (Quartet Books, London). He also wrote songs (music by Walid Golmieh and Charbel Rouhana) His Arabic work has been translated into French, German, Dutch, Spanish and English. He lives between Melbourne, Australia, and Sereel, Lebanon.

احياناً يخيّل الي انني ولدت في مدينة صور. علاقتها الواضحة بذاكرتي الباكرة، رجعاتي اليها مرة بعد مرة على مرّ السنين، بقاء احيائها الضيقة الملزوزة على حالها، حارات طفولتي و’بيتنا‘ القديم ما زال قائماً فيها حتى اليوم، ناهيك عن استمرار حضور جدي وجدتي في ذاكرة الأهالي ، كلها معطيات صلبة تردني تلقائياً نحو صور وبحرها، ومدرسة الآباء الكبوشيين في ’الباص‘ مدرستي الاولى التي لم تعد هناك.لكنني ولدت في بيروت، حيّ المزرعة، قرب ملعب السلام قبل قضمه من قبل الهجمة المعمارية الهوجاء التي اجتاحت العاصمة وخلطت حابلها بنابلها. حين بلغت الرابعة من عمريانتقلنا الى الاشرفية السفلى، قرب مستشفى اوتيل ديو.كان البيت ضيقاً، لا يتناسب مع شغف ابي بكثرة الابناء والبنات.(تعويضاً عن نشأته وحيداً بلا اخوة واخوات) وسرعان ما انتقلنا مرة اخرى الى بلدة حدث بيروت وبيت اوسع مع حديقة...
