Biographies of Patricia Sarrafian Ward

Patricia Sarrafian Ward was born and raised during the civil war in Beirut, Lebanon and moved to the States when she was 18. Much of her work explores themes of civilian wartime suffering, emigration, and tensions around nationality and identity. Her dad was American and her mom is Lebanese of Armenian/Danish heritage. Having grown up surrounded by the Armenian side of her family, she adopted my mother's maiden name, Sarrafian, as a way to honor that part of her life story.She got her MFA from University of Michigan and published many stories, poems, and essays, and then her first novel, The Bullet Collection. ولدت ونشأت خلال الحرب الأهلية في بيروت، لبنان وانتقلت إلى الولايات المتحدة عندما كانت في الثامنة عشرة من عمرها. يستكشف الكثير من أعمالها مواضيع معاناة المدنيين في زمن الحرب، والهجرة، والتوترات حول الجنسية والهوية. كان والدها أمريكيا ووالدتها لبنانية من التراث الأرمني/الدنماركي. بعد أن كبرت محاطة بالجانب الأرمني من عائلتها، تبنت اسم والدتي قبل الزواج، صرافيان، كوسيلة لتكريم ذلك الجزء من قصة حياتها.
