Amin Maalouf is an award-winning French Lebanese novelist, essayist and memoirist. His novels have been translated into more than fifty languages and include The Rock of Tanios, which won France’s most prestigious literary award, the Prix Goncourt. Maalouf is a member of the Académie française and in 2010 was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature for his entire oeuvre.

مين معلوف من مواليد 25 شباط/ فبراير 1949 في بيروت، هو الابن الثاني في الأسرة المؤلفة من أربعة أطفال. كانت أسرة والديه من قرية عين القبو اللبنانية الجبلية. تزوج والداه في القاهرة في عام 1945، حيث ولدت أوديت والدته لأبٍ مسيحي من ذات القرية اللبنانية، ولكنه تركها وذهب للعمل في مصر. كما ولدت جدته في تركيا.كان رشدي معلوف والد أمين كاثوليكيًا. كان أحد أجداده قسيسًا، ولكن ابنه نفر من المسيحية ورفض أن يعمّد أطفاله في الكنيسة. وفي حين أن الفرع البروتستانتي للأسرة أراد إرسال أطفاله إلى مدارس بريطانية و أمريكية، كانت والدة معلوف كاثوليكية متشددة أصرت على إرساله إلى مدرسة نوتردام الفرنسية. درس أمين علم الاجتماع في جامعة القديس يوسف الفرنسية في بيروت.على الرغم من أن أمين يحمل درجة البكالوريوس في علم الاجتماع والاقتصاد، إلا أنه ورث موهبته الأدبية من عائلته،...
